Zakat-ul Fitr is is a part of Ramadan and is identified by the following characteristics:

1. It comprises about 5.5 pounds of wheat, rice dates, dates, or related food items.

2. Zakat-ul-Fitr can be estimated at the equivalent of $12 US per household member, or the equivalent in most advanced countries.

3. It should be said before Eid prayers unless there is a legal reason to justify a delay.

4. It must be made on behalf of each household member, whether female or male, or adult or minor.
