Powerful Dua (Fasting Dua)

To indicate and confirm the intent of the fast, the following duas (prayers), are recited both at the start and the end of the day.

Fasting is done to draw closer to God.

It is important to make an intention for every action. This will remind us of our inner selves and confirm that we are seeking the pleasure of God with all our actions.

Powerful Dua (Fasting Dua), Dua, Prayer, Supplications, Ramadan

Dua (Prayer), at the beginning of the Fast 1.

وَبِصَوْمِ غَدٍ نَّوَيْتُ مِنْ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ

Wa bisawmi ghadinn nawaiytu min shahri ramadan

I will fast tomorrow during the month of Ramadan

You can also say the following:

Dua (Prayer), at the beginning of the Fast 2.

نـَوَيْتُ صَوْمَ غـَدٍ عَـنْ اَدَاءِ فـَرْضِ شـَهْرِ رَمـَضَانَ هـَذِهِ السَّـنـَةِ لِلـّهِ تـَعَالىَ

Nawaitu sauma ghadin anadai fardu shahri ramadhana hazihissanati lillahitaala

I will fast tomorrow, the first day of Ramadan in this year.

Dua (Prayer), at the end of the Fast

اللَّهُمَّ اِنِّى لَكَ صُمْتُ وَبِكَ امنْتُ وَعَليْكَ تَوَكّلتُ وَ عَلى رِزْقِكَ اَفْطَرْتُ

Allahumma inni laka sumtu wa bika aamantu wa alayka tawakkaltu wa ala rizq-ika-aftartu

O Allah! O Allah!

Hadith of Intention

Umar Ibn al-Khattab reports that he heard the Messenger Slllh lyh W slm saying: “Actions only come from intention, and each man will get what he intends.” The migration of a person who is moving to Allah or His Messenger will be for Allah and the messenger. If he is migrating to gain some worldly advantage, to marry a woman, etc., then his migration will be for what he intended.

This Hadith is a very comprehensive and rich Hadith that represents the Islamic Faith.

Imam Bukhari chose the first hadith “Innamal a’malu binniyat” from Sahih Bukhari to introduce the entire collection in order to demonstrate the sincerity and purpose of the author. It reminds readers that the Hadiths found in the collection will only be effective if they are sincere and would have no meaning if their motives were not sincere.
