Fasting Begins on Thursday in Saudi Arabia Despite There Being No Ramazan Moon – The holy fasting month will officially begin in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, March 23, as the Ramazan crescent was not seen on Tuesday evening. Al Arabiya announced.

The Islamic calendar is based on a lunar calendar with 12 months and 354 or 355. When a crescent moon appears, Ramazan begins the ninth Islamic month.

Both lunar calculations and the physical sighting of a new Moon determine when to start the dawn-dusk month of fasting. Ramazan is a spiritual and fasting month observed by over 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide.

All healthy Muslims are required to fast during Ramazan. However, young children, people who are sick, travelers, and women who are menstruating, pregnant, or nursing are exempt.

For thousands of years, Muslims have looked for the crescent to determine when Ramazan begins, as well as Eidul Adha and Eidul Fitr, the two main holidays in Islam.

Express News reports that a meeting between the central and zone Ruet-e-Hilal Committees in Pakistan for the sighting of a crescent during the Islamic month of Ramazan is scheduled on Wednesday at Peshawar.

Maulana Abdulkhabir Azad will preside over the meeting of the central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee at the Auqaf Hall in Peshawar. The zonal Moon-Sighting Committee will also be held at the exact location.

The Qasim-Ali Khan mosque in the provincial capital has also called a meeting for the moon-sighting unofficial committee.
