Can you call for prayer in other than Arabic?
Prayer calling (Adhan) is not authorized in a different language, although the translation that will allow people to understand and learn can be beneficial.
Islamic Scholars Say:
Most Islamic thinkers believe that it is prohibited to call to prayer (Adhan) in a language other than Arabic. Even though the intention of calling the prayer is clear, the Kuwaiti Encyclopedia of Islamic Jurisprudence states that the Adhan is invalid, in accordance with the Hanafi and Hanbali schools of thought, when it is made in Persian or a different language. The Maliki school shares these views and as such requires the Adhan to be in the stipulated Arabic words.
The Shafi’i Scholars Says:
Adhan in English Words— The Shafiite thinkers offer an elaborate opinion. According to them, the Adhan is not possible to be given in any other language when the assembly of people speaking Arabic is held together. Nonetheless, there is nothing wrong with calling the Adhan using a different language in case there is no person who understands Arabic. Besides, in case one is summoning the Adhan on behalf of herself, she or he must use Arabic provided that he or she knows it, otherwise they may utilize any other language.
