Types of Arabic Vowels
The Arabic Alphabet has consonants and vowels, where each figure influences the formation of the word. The vowels are of two type namely Short vowels and Long vowels.
Vowels are used to distinguish the meaning of the word by the vibration of sounds, tone and duration; they are modifiers that are attached to other letters.
Short vowels
They are sound and there are diacritics placed above or below the letter and are called Harakat or Tashkeel.
Pronunciation of the letter is followed immediately and it is put on the vowel sound (depending on the symbol and the position of the diacritic) and then it passes on to the other letter.
There are 3 types of Short vowels in Arabic Language;
- Fatiha: it is similar to the letter a such as the word bag, it is written by placing ( َ ) above the letter that is desired.
- Kasra: it is like the letter i i.e. the word sit, it is characterized by placing the same diacritic as Fatiha, but under the required letter.
- Damma: is similar to the letter u, the word look, and it is marked by ( ُ )above the letter.
