Arabic Week Name – Names and Meanings

During this lesson, we shall be taught about Arabic Week Name. In Arabic Language, it is translated as Yaum which means day. Arabic days are counted in that the first day is referred to as Al-Ahad. The term ahad means one i.e First day of the week.

How to Say “Day” in Arabic?

First, “day” in Arabic is yawm. It is a word you will constantly encounter when you speak Arabic and therefore it is better to be conversant with it.

Here’s how you can use it in a sentence:

اليوم يوم جميل
(al-yawm yawm jameel)

That is how you find the word yawm used twice there? First to be today; then to be a day!

And this is the plural of the day in the Arabic language: أيام (ayyaam). This means “days”.

مرت أيامٌ جميلة
(marrat ayyaamun jameelah)

How to Say “Week” in Arabic?

Arabic Week Name is spelled as أُسْبُوعٌ (ʾusbūʿ) -Week in Arabic is pronounced as أusbūʿ ( ع ) which is a kind of sound that you make in the back of your throat and it almost seems as a sort of growl.

For example, you might say:

هذا الأسبوعُ طويلٌ جدًا
(haatha al-usbuu’u taweelun jiddan!)

And week in plural in Arabic: أسابيع (asabi) – This is pronounced as a-sabe.
