Can You Pray Taraweeh At Home? Complete Guide

In this blog we will learn, “Can you pray Taraweeh at home?” Then by saying that whoever prays at night during Ramadan out of faith and hope of reward, his past sins will be forgiven, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) encouraged tarawih prayers which is Sunnah Mu’akkadah (a confirmed Sunnah). Congregational prayer is better than Pralbaaying alone since the Prophet (ﷺ) established and explained its benefits for the Qiyaam throughout Ramadan.

1. Taraweeh at Home Is Allowed

The Prophet PBUH prayed Taraweeh at home for many nights. He only stopped leading it in congregation out of fear that it might become obligatory on the ummah.

So, praying it at home is perfectly valid.

2. Men & Women Can Pray Taraweeh at Home

Men may pray Taraweeh at home even if the mosque are remote .
Women can pray Taraweeh at home compulsory.

3. You Can Pray Any Number of Rak’ahs

There is no fixed number But these are recommended according to Fiqah.

8 rak’ahs
20 rak’ahs

4. You Can Read Quran in the Taraweeh Rakats

If you do not have the entire Quran memorized, you may:

Hold the Quran
Read from a phone
Place the Mushaf on a stand

This is allowed according to many scholars.

5. You Can Pray Alone or With Family

Both are allowed:

Pray alone
Lead your family as imam
Or pray behind a family member

According to Aishah, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gathered the people to pray Tarawih for three consecutive nights; hence, it is better to do it at a mosque than at home. He said, “Whoever prays qiyam with the imam until he leaves, it will be as if he spent the entire night in prayer,” may Allah bless him. Al-Bahuti said in Daqaiq Uli al-Nuha, 1/2245:

As a result, while it is permitted for a man to pray it alone at home or in a congregation with his family, it is better to do so in a mosque congregation. Al-Nawawi said in al-Majmu’, 3/526:
