Can I Read Quran on My Period – Is It Allowed? There is no harm on menstruating women or woman in post-natal bleeding to recite the Quran. She is not supposed to touch the Mushaf, but she can only read the script off her head.

Neither a menstruating woman nor a female in post-natal bleeding can recite the Quran. This is firstly due to the fact that they cannot find direct authoritative hadith that prohibits them from doing so.

Is it permissible that is a woman to read the Quran in a loud Voice?

Ali ibn Abi Talib, on the other hand, reported an authentic hadith, according to which junub (one in a state of impurity following sexual intercourse or wet dream) should not read the Quran in an impure state.

The hadith which states that menstruating women and the one who experiences junub are not supposed to read Quran is as follows: the menstruating woman and the one experiencing junub do not read the Quran.’

Ibn Umar narrated this hadith except for that it is Gharib: He narrated this hadith of the Hijaziyeen was from Isma`eel Ibn `Ayyash, and the Hijaziyeen are renowned for narrating false hadith from them.

But this woman (in the state of her menses or pregnancy-blood) can not touch the Mushaf; she may read upon her own recollection.

Can I Read Quran on My Period – The junub on his or her part is not to recite the Quran, either memorized or in the Mushaf, until ghusl (major bath) has been performed.

The difference here is that the duration in which the junub is required to purify himself/herself is very little; he/she can make the ghusl immediately after the act of lovemaking or in the case of a wet dream.

This state does not last long on the part of the junub, but it is up to him/her to decide when he/she desires to perform ghusl. In the event that he/she fails to find water, he/she may perform tayammum (dry ablution) and later on he or she may pray and read the Quran. However, the woman in menses or in post-natal bleeding has no choice over her circumstances- it is the choice of Allah the Almighty.
