How To Pray Tarawih Step By Step Guide?

How to Pray Tarawih: Step-by-Step Guide  To offer Taraweeh, make your intention (niyyah) for Allah, pray in sets of two rakats (like normal prayers: stand, recite Fatiha & surah, bow, and prostrate twice) after Isha, taking breaks after every four rakats, and finish with Witr, aiming for 8, 12, or 20 rakats in total.

Categories: PRAYER

Before you start

  • Perform Isha: Complete your obligatory Isha prayer first.
  • Make intention (Niyyah): Silently say, “I intend to pray the Sunnah prayer of Taraweeh for Allah” (or as a follower, “as the Makmum”).

How to perform each 2-rakaat set

  1. Start (Takbir): Say “Allahu Akbar” (Allah is the Greatest), raising hands to ears.
  2. Stand & Recite: Place your right hand over left, recite Surah Al-Fatiha, then another short surah (e.g., Ikhlas, Falaq, or Nas).
  3. Bow (Ruku): Say “Allahu Akbar,” bow with hands on knees, back straight, and say Subhana Rabbiyal Adheem.
  4. Stand Up: Say “Sami Allahu liman hamidah,” then “Rabbana lakal hamd.”
  5. Prostrate (Sujud): Say “Allahu Akbar,” and prostrate with forehead, nose, palms, knees, and toes touching the floor; say “Subhana Rabbiyal A’la” three times.
  6. Sit Briefly: Say “Allahu Akbar,” sit on your left foot, and then go back to Sujud.
  7. Second Rakaat: Repeat steps 2-6.
  8. Tashahhud: After the second Sujud of the second rakaat, sit and recite Tashahhud.
  9. Salam: Turn your head right and say “Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah,” then left.

After each set (or every 4 rakats)

Take a short break to rest, drink water, or make dua (supplication).

Finishing up

  • Repeat sets until you reach your desired number (8, 12, or 20 is common).
  • Conclude the night with the Witr prayer (1 or 3 rakats).

Amin, may Allah accept all of your efforts during Ramadan, including your salah and du’as!
