Dua For Thunder and Rain – learn Islam

A dua for thunder is a short prayer Muslims recite when they hear thunder rolling across the sky. Many of us freeze, cover our ears, or scroll our phones instead. Some people don’t even know the Prophet ﷺ taught specific words for this moment. Let’s fix that today.

Why This Dua Matters

Thunder is loud, sudden, and a little scary. Science explains it as air heating and expanding around a lightning bolt, as Wikipedia’s page on thunder shows. The Qur’an adds something deeper. It tells us thunder itself glorifies Allah. That changes how we hear it.

Dua for Lightning and Thunder: The Words

Here is the supplication reported from the Prophet ﷺ. It also works as a dua for lightning and thunder together, since they arrive as one event.

Arabic:
اللَّهُمَّ لَا تَقْتُلْنَا بِغَضَبِكَ وَلَا تُهْلِكْنَا بِعَذَابِكَ وَعَافِنَا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ
