Dua For Good Character – Dua, making prayer to God Almighty, is a common form of worship in almost every religion. In Islam, it is commended and encouraged to make dua as it establishes a special and direct relationship of a person with Allah SWT. We will discuss how making dua can help building a person’s character.

A beautiful prayer taught by our Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. which is a prayer to attain good character

Dua For Good Character,Which means

“O Allah, please guide me towards deeds that are good, and a character that is good. There is no one who can guide me towards goodness, other than You.”

Ibn Mas’ud reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “O Allah, You have made my creation beautiful, thus make my character beautiful.” Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān 959

عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ حَسَّنْتَ خَلْقِي فَحَسِّنْ خُلُقِي

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ صِحَّةَ إِيمَانٍ وَإِيمَانًا فِي خُلُقٍ حَسَنٍ وَنَجَاحًا يَتْبَعُهُ فَلَاحٌ يَعْنِي وَرَحْمَةً مِنْكَ وَعَافِيَةً وَمَغْفِرَةً مِنْكَ وَرِضْوَانًا

Pronunciation: Allahumma innee a’oozu bika min munkaraatil-akhlaaqi, wal-a’maali, wal– ‘ahwaa’i, wal-ad-waaa-i

So How to Attain Good Character?

By learning and practicing. Good character is based on five important qualities: Knowledge; A willingness to change; – Islam. (Ibn ul Qayyim)

Here are some practical tips on how to strive for a good character:

Be sincere in asking Allah to give you good character
Be patient and keep trying
Surround yourself with people of good character
Accept advice and seek forgiveness from others
Read books about good character

Just as the Muslim should strive to make all his worship sincerely for Allah alone, so too he should strive to do the same when trying to improve his character. He should always bear in mind the command of Allah, the reckoning, the balance, and paradise and hell, and he should remember that people will never benefit him or harm him at all. Remembering the hereafter is one of the most important means that will help the Muslim to be sincere to Allah, may He be exalted.
