Is Taraweeh Compulsory in Islam Question & Answer

Is Taraweeh Compulsory in Islam? No, Tarawih prayers are not fard; rather, they are Sunnah Muakkadah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that are observed during the month of Ramadan and offer spiritual rewards for The Muslims. It is not sinful to skip The Tarawih Prayer.

If a Muslim does not pray Tarawih, he is not guilty of a sin, regardless of whether he has a Shariah excuse. Rather, Muslims are advised to regularly adhere to the confirmed Sunnah that the Prophet PBUH followed: “A person’s past transgressions will be pardoned if they pray qiyam during Ramadan out of faith and in the expectation of reward.” .”  Muslim, 760; Al-Bukhari, 37

However, Muslims should neither refuse or reject the Tarawih prayer. If he can’t pray it with the imam in the mosque, he should perform the Tarawih at home. If he is unable to finish 20 rak’ahs, he should still pray Witr even if he can only finish two.

Key Points of Tarawih:

Not Obligatory:

For Muslims, Taraweeh prayer is a voluntary prayer.

Muslims are encouraged to perform Taraweeh, especially in congregation, as the Prophet did on a offer Taraweeh.

Missed Reward:

It is not wrong to miss up on significant gifts and rewards, especially during Ramadan.
Although it is not absolutely mandated by Islam, taraweeh is essentially a special, highly recommended act of worship that Muslims should try to conduct throughout Ramadan for its spiritual advantages.

Is skipping Taraweeh acceptable?

Yes, Muslims are required to offer the prayers of Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha. But during The Month of Ramadan, there is the taraweeh prayer. If I don’t perform taraweeh for the whole month of Ramadan, is it acceptable? Is it okay to skip Taraweeh? I’ve heard that taraweeh is optional.. (I’m a female.)

ANSWER

The term “tarweehah,” which refers to a (short) pause in between raka’at sets, is whence the name “taraweeh” originates. It is basically a night prayer under a different name because early Muslims thought it was a night prayer.

Imam Ahmad said:

“If a woman offers her five prayers in a day, fasts the month of Ramadan, protects her chastity, Help the Poor and needy and obeys her husband, it will be said to her: Enter Paradise by whichever of its gates you wish,” said the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), according to ‘Abd ar-Rahmaan ibn ‘Awf.” (islamqa #175885
