About Surah Al-Hadid

| 4 | هُوَ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ فِي سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ ٱسْتَوَىٰ عَلَى ٱلْعَرْشِۖ يَعْلَمُ مَا يَلِجُ فِي ٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا يَخْرُجُ مِنْهَا وَمَا يَنزِلُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاءِ وَمَا يَعْرُجُ فِيهَاۖ وَهُوَ مَعَكُمْ أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُمْۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ | Huwal lazee khalaqas samaawaati wal arda fee sittati ayyaamin summas tawaa ‘alal ‘Arsh; ya’lamu maa yaliju filardi wa maa yakhruju minhaa wa maa yanzilu minas samaaa’i wa maa ya’ruju feeha wa Huwa ma’akum ayna maa kuntum; wallaahu bimaa ta’maloona Baseer | He created the heavens and earth in six days, then established Himself above the Throne. He knows what enters the earth and what leaves it, what descends from the sky and what rises to it, and He is with you wherever you are; He sees all you do. |
| 5 | لَهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِۚ وَإِلَى ٱللَّهِ تُرْجَعُ ٱلْأُمُورُ | Lahoo mulkus samaawaati wal ard; wa ilal laahi turja’ul umoor | The kingdom of the heavens and earth belongs to Him, and every matter returns to Him. |
| 6 | يُولِجُ ٱلَّيْلَ فِي ٱلنَّهَارِ وَيُولِجُ ٱلنَّهَارَ فِي ٱلَّيْلِۚ وَهُوَ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ | Yoolijul laila fin nahaari wa yoolijun nahaara fil lail; wa Huwa ‘Aleemum bizaatis sudoor | He merges night into day and day into night, and He knows what every heart conceals. |
| 7 | آمِنُوا بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَأَنفِقُوا مِمَّا جَعَلَكُم مُّسْتَخْلَفِينَ فِيهِۖ فَٱلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنكُمْ وَأَنفَقُوا لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ كَبِيرٌ | Aaaminoo billaahi wa Rasoolihee wa anfiqoo mimmaa ja’alakum mustakh lafeena feehi fallazeena aamanoo minkum wa anfaqoo lahum ajrun kabeer | Believe in Allah and His Messenger, and spend from the wealth He has entrusted to you; those who believe and spend will have a great reward. |
| 8 | وَمَا لَكُمْ لَا تُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلرَّسُولُ يَدْعُوكُمْ لِتُؤْمِنُوا بِرَبِّكُمْ وَقَدْ أَخَذَ مِيثَاقَكُمْ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ | Wa maa lakum laa tu’minoona billaahi war Rasoolu yad’ookum li tu’minoo bi Rabbikum wa qad akhaza meesaaqakum in kuntum mu’mineen | Why do you hesitate to believe in Allah, when the Messenger calls you to your Lord, and a pledge has already been taken from you? |
| 9 | هُوَ ٱلَّذِي يُنَزِّلُ عَلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ آيَاتٍ بَيِّنَاتٍ لِّيُخْرِجَكُم مِّنَ ٱلظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِۚ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِكُمْ لَرَءُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ | Huwal lazee yunazzilu ‘alaa ‘abdiheee Aayaatim baiyinaatil liyukhrijakum minaz zulumaati ilan noor; wa innal laaha bikum la Ra’oofur Raheem | He sends clear revelations to His servant to bring you out of darkness into light; He is truly kind and merciful to you. |
| 10 | وَمَا لَكُمْ أَلَّا تُنفِقُوا فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِلَّهِ مِيرَاثُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِۚ لَا يَسْتَوِي مِنكُم مَّنْ أَنفَقَ مِن قَبْلِ ٱلْفَتْحِ وَقَاتَلَۚ أُولَٰئِكَ أَعْظَمُ دَرَجَةً مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنفَقُوا مِن بَعْدُ وَقَاتَلُواۚ وَكُلًّا وَعَدَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرٌ | Wa maa lakum allaa tunfiqoo fee sabeelil laahi wa lillaahi meeraasus samaawaati wal-ard; laa yastawee minkum man anfaqa min qablil fat-hi wa qaatal; ulaaa’ika a’zamu darajatam minal lazeena anfaqoo min ba’du wa qaataloo; wa kullanw wa’ad allaahul husnaa; wallaahu bimaa ta’maloona Khabeer | Why not spend for Allah’s cause, when the heavens and earth already belong to Him? Those who gave and struggled before the victory rank higher than those who did so afterward, though Allah has promised good to both. |
| 11 | مَّن ذَا ٱلَّذِي يُقْرِضُ ٱللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا فَيُضَاعِفَهُ لَهُ وَلَهُ أَجْرٌ كَرِيمٌ | Man zal lazee yuqridul laaha qardan hasanan fa yudaa’ifahoo lahoo wa lahooo ajrun kareem | Whoever gives Allah a good loan will have it multiplied for him, along with a generous reward. |
| 12 | يَوْمَ تَرَى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَاتِ يَسْعَىٰ نُورُهُم بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَبِأَيْمَانِهِم بُشْرَاكُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ جَنَّاتٌ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَاۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ | Yawma taral mu’mineena walmu’minaati yas’aa nooruhum baina aydeehim wa bi aymaanihim bushraakumul yawma jannaatun tajree min tahtihal anhaaru khaalideena feeha; zaalika huwal fawzul ‘azeem | On the day their light moves ahead of believing men and women, they will be told: today’s good news is gardens with flowing rivers, to remain in forever — the supreme success. |
| 13 | يَوْمَ يَقُولُ ٱلْمُنَافِقُونَ وَٱلْمُنَافِقَاتُ لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا ٱنظُرُونَا نَقْتَبِسْ مِن نُّورِكُمْ قِيلَ ٱرْجِعُوا وَرَاءَكُمْ فَٱلْتَمِسُوا نُورًا فَضُرِبَ بَيْنَهُم بِسُورٍ لَّهُ بَابٌ بَاطِنُهُ فِيهِ ٱلرَّحْمَةُ وَظَاهِرُهُ مِن قِبَلِهِ ٱلْعَذَابُ | Yawma yaqoolul munaafiqoona walmunaafiqaatu lil lazeena aamanu unzuroonaa naqtabis min noorikum qeelarji’oo waraaa’akum faltamisoo nooran faduriba bainahum bisooril lahoo baabun, baatinuhoo feehir rahmatu wa zaahiruhoo min qibalihi-‘azaab | Hypocrites will ask believers to wait so they can share their light, but will be told to go back and search elsewhere; a wall with a gate will separate them, mercy on one side and punishment on the other. |
| 14 | يُنَادُونَهُمْ أَلَمْ نَكُن مَّعَكُمْۖ قَالُوا بَلَىٰ وَلَٰكِنَّكُمْ فَتَنتُمْ أَنفُسَكُمْ وَتَرَبَّصْتُمْ وَٱرْتَبْتُمْ وَغَرَّتْكُمُ ٱلْأَمَانِيُّ حَتَّىٰ جَاءَ أَمْرُ ٱللَّهِ وَغَرَّكُم بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْغَرُورُ | Yunaadoonahum alam nakum ma’akum qaaloo balaa wa laakinnakum fatantum anfusakum wa tarabbastum wartabtum wa gharratkumul amaaniyyu hatta jaaa’a amrul laahi wa gharrakum billaahil gharoor | Hypocrites will call out asking if they weren’t with the believers; the reply comes that they tested themselves, hesitated, doubted, and were misled by false hope until Allah’s decree arrived — deceived by the great deceiver. |
| 15 | فَٱلْيَوْمَ لَا يُؤْخَذُ مِنكُمْ فِدْيَةٌ وَلَا مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواۚ مَأْوَاكُمُ ٱلنَّارُۖ هِيَ مَوْلَاكُمْۖ وَبِئْسَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ | Fal Yawma laa yu’khazu minkum fidyatunw wa laa minal lazeena kafaroo; ma’waakumun Naaru hiya maw laakum wa bi’sal maseer | That day, no ransom will be taken from hypocrites or disbelievers; the Fire is their only home, a truly miserable destination. |
| 16 | أَلَمْ يَأْنِ لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَن تَخْشَعَ قُلُوبُهُمْ لِذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ وَمَا نَزَلَ مِنَ ٱلْحَقِّ وَلَا يَكُونُوا كَٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا ٱلْكِتَابَ مِن قَبْلُ فَطَالَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْأَمَدُ فَقَسَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْۖ وَكَثِيرٌ مِّنْهُمْ فَاسِقُونَ | Alam ya’ni lil lazeena aamanooo an takhsha’a quloobuhum lizikril laahi wa maa nazala minal haqqi wa laa yakoonoo kallazeena ootul Kitaaba min qablu fataala ‘alaihimul amadu faqasat quloobuhum wa kaseerum minhum faasiqoon | Isn’t it time believers’ hearts grow humble at Allah’s remembrance and the truth revealed, rather than hardening over time like the hearts of those given scripture before them, many of whom strayed? |
| 17 | ٱعْلَمُوا أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحْىِ ٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَاۚ قَدْ بَيَّنَّا لَكُمُ ٱلْآيَاتِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ | I’lamooo annal laaha yuhyil arda ba’da mawtihaa; qad baiyannaa lakumul Aayaati la’allakum ta’qiloon | Know that Allah brings the earth back to life after it has died; the signs have been made clear so that you may understand. |
| 18 | إِنَّ ٱلْمُصَّدِّقِينَ وَٱلْمُصَّدِّقَاتِ وَأَقْرَضُوا ٱللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا يُضَاعَفُ لَهُمْ وَلَهُمْ أَجْرٌ كَرِيمٌ | Innal mussaddiqeena wal mussaddiqaati wa aqradul laaha qardan hassanany yudaa’afu lahum wa lahum ajrun kareem | Charitable men and women who give Allah a good loan will have it doubled, along with a generous reward. |
| 19 | وَٱلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا بِٱللَّهِ وَرُسُلِهِ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ ٱلصِّدِّيقُونَۖ وَٱلشُّهَدَاءُ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ لَهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ وَنُورُهُمْۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَكَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا أُولَٰئِكَ أَصْحَابُ ٱلْجَحِيمِ | Wallazeena aamanoo billaahi wa Rusuliheee ulaaa’ika humus siddeeqoon; wash shuhadaaa’u ‘inda Rabbihim lahum ajruhum wa nooruhum; wallazeena kafaroo wa kazzaboo bi aayaatinaaa ulaaa’ika As haabul jaheem | Those who believe in Allah and His messengers are the truthful witnesses before their Lord, with reward and light awaiting them; those who deny His signs belong to the blazing Fire. |
| 20 | ٱعْلَمُوا أَنَّمَا ٱلْحَيَاةُ ٱلدُّنْيَا لَعِبٌ وَلَهْوٌ وَزِينَةٌ وَتَفَاخُرٌ بَيْنَكُمْ وَتَكَاثُرٌ فِي ٱلْأَمْوَالِ وَٱلْأَوْلَادِۖ كَمَثَلِ غَيْثٍ أَعْجَبَ ٱلْكُفَّارَ نَبَاتُهُ ثُمَّ يَهِيجُ فَتَرَاهُ مُصْفَرًّا ثُمَّ يَكُونُ حُطَامًاۖ وَفِي ٱلْآخِرَةِ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌ وَمَغْفِرَةٌ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرِضْوَانٌۚ وَمَا ٱلْحَيَاةُ ٱلدُّنْيَا إِلَّا مَتَاعُ ٱلْغُرُورِ | I’lamooo annamal hayaa tud dunyaa la’ibunw wa lahwunw wa zeenatunw wa tafaakhurum bainakum wa takaasurun fil amwaali wal awlaad, kamasali ghaisin a’jabal kuffaara nabaatuhoo summa yaheeju fataraahu musfaaran summa yakoonu hutaamaa; wa fil aakhirati ‘azaabun shadeedunw wa magh firatum minal laahi wa ridwaan; wa mal haiyaa tuddun yaaa illaa mataa’ul ghuroor | Worldly life is only play, distraction, vanity, and rivalry in wealth and children — like rain producing crops that soon wither into straw. The next life holds either harsh punishment or Allah’s forgiveness and pleasure; this life is only a fleeting illusion. |
| 21 | سَابِقُوا إِلَىٰ مَغْفِرَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَجَنَّةٍ عَرْضُهَا كَعَرْضِ ٱلسَّمَاءِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ أُعِدَّتْ لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا بِٱللَّهِ وَرُسُلِهِۚ ذَٰلِكَ فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ يُؤْتِيهِ مَن يَشَاءُۚ وَٱللَّهُ ذُو ٱلْفَضْلِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ | Saabiqooo ilaa maghfiratim mir Rabbikum wa jannatin ‘arduhaa ka-‘ardis samaaa’i wal ardi u’iddat lillazeena aamanoo billaahi wa Rusulih; zaalika fadlul laahi yu’teehi many yashaaa’; wal laahu zul fadlil ‘azeem | Race toward your Lord’s forgiveness and a paradise as wide as the heavens and earth, prepared for believers — a gift Allah gives to whoever He wills. |
| 22 | مَا أَصَابَ مِن مُّصِيبَةٍ فِي ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي أَنفُسِكُمْ إِلَّا فِي كِتَابٍ مِّن قَبْلِ أَن نَّبْرَأَهَاۚ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ يَسِيرٌ | Maaa asaaba min museebatin fil ardi wa laa feee anfusikum illaa fee kitaabim min qabli an nabra ahaa; innaa zaalika ‘alal laahi yaseer | No hardship strikes the earth or yourselves without it being recorded beforehand; that is easy for Allah. |
| 23 | لِّكَيْلَا تَأْسَوْا عَلَىٰ مَا فَاتَكُمْ وَلَا تَفْرَحُوا بِمَا آتَاكُمْۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ كُلَّ مُخْتَالٍ فَخُورٍ | Likailaa ta’saw ‘alaa maa faatakum wa laa tafrahoo bimaaa aataakum; wallaahu laa yuhibbu kulla mukhtaalin fakhoor | This is so you neither grieve over what you lose nor grow boastful over what you’re given; Allah dislikes every arrogant, boastful person. |
| 24 | ٱلَّذِينَ يَبْخَلُونَ وَيَأْمُرُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ بِٱلْبُخْلِۗ وَمَن يَتَوَلَّ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْغَنِيُّ ٱلْحَمِيدُ | Allazeeena yabkhaloona wa yaamuroonan naasa bil bukhl; wa many yatawalla fa innal laaha Huwal Ghaniyyul Hameed | Those who are stingy and urge others toward stinginess should know that whoever turns away, Allah needs nothing and is worthy of all praise. |
| 25 | لَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلَنَا بِٱلْبَيِّنَاتِ وَأَنزَلْنَا مَعَهُمُ ٱلْكِتَابَ وَٱلْمِيزَانَ لِيَقُومَ ٱلنَّاسُ بِٱلْقِسْطِۖ وَأَنزَلْنَا ٱلْحَدِيدَ فِيهِ بَأْسٌ شَدِيدٌ وَمَنَافِعُ لِلنَّاسِ وَلِيَعْلَمَ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَنصُرُهُ وَرُسُلَهُ بِٱلْغَيْبِۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَوِيٌّ عَزِيزٌ | Laqad arsalnaa Rusulanaa bilbaiyinaati wa anzalnaa ma’ahumul Kitaaba wal Meezaana liyaqooman naasu bilqist, wa anzalnal hadeeda feehi baasun shadeedunw wa manaafi’u linnaasi wa liya’lamal laahu many yansuruhoo wa Rusulahoo bilghaib; innal laaha Qawiyyun ‘Azeez | Prophets were sent with clear signs, the Scripture, and a standard of justice for people to uphold; iron was sent down with its strength and benefits, so Allah could distinguish who truly supports Him unseen. |
| 26 | وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ وَجَعَلْنَا فِي ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا ٱلنُّبُوَّةَ وَٱلْكِتَابَۖ فَمِنْهُم مُّهْتَدٍۖ وَكَثِيرٌ مِّنْهُمْ فَاسِقُونَ | Wa laqad arsalnaa Noohanw wa Ibraaheema wa ja’alnaa fee zurriyyatihiman nubuwwata wal Kitaaba faminhum muhtad; wa kaseerum minhum faasiqoon | Noah and Abraham were sent, and prophethood and scripture continued through their descendants; some were guided, but many strayed. |
| 27 | ثُمَّ قَفَّيْنَا عَلَىٰ آثَارِهِم بِرُسُلِنَا وَقَفَّيْنَا بِعِيسَى ٱبْنِ مَرْيَمَ وَآتَيْنَاهُ ٱلْإِنجِيلَ وَجَعَلْنَا فِي قُلُوبِ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوهُ رَأْفَةً وَرَحْمَةً وَرَهْبَانِيَّةً ٱبْتَدَعُوهَا مَا كَتَبْنَاهَا عَلَيْهِمْ إِلَّا ٱبْتِغَاءَ رِضْوَانِ ٱللَّهِ فَمَا رَعَوْهَا حَقَّ رِعَايَتِهَاۖ فَآتَيْنَا ٱلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنْهُمْ أَجْرَهُمْۖ وَكَثِيرٌ مِّنْهُمْ فَاسِقُونَ | Summa qaffainaa ‘alaa aasaarihim bi Rusulinaa wa qaffainaa bi ‘Eesab ni Maryama wa aatainaahul Injeela wa ja’alnaa fee quloobil lazeenat taba’oohu ra’fatanw wa rahmatanw rahbaaniyyatan ibtada’ooha maa katabnaahaa ‘alaihim illab tighaaa’a ridwaanil laahi famaa ra’awhaa haqqa ri’aayatihaa; fa aatainal lazeena aamanoo minhum ajrahum; wa kaseerum minhum faasiqoon | Other messengers followed, then Jesus son of Mary was given the Gospel, and his followers were granted compassion. The monastic life they invented was not commanded, and many did not keep it faithfully, yet the believers among them were still rewarded. |
| 28 | يَا أَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا ٱتَّقُوا ٱللَّهَ وَآمِنُوا بِرَسُولِهِ يُؤْتِكُمْ كِفْلَيْنِ مِن رَّحْمَتِهِ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ نُورًا تَمْشُونَ بِهِ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ | Yaaa ayyuhal lazeena aamaanut taqullaaha wa aaminoo bi Rasoolihee yu’tikum kiflaini mir rahmatihee wa yaj’al lakum nooran tamshoona bihee wa yaghfir lakum; wallaahu Ghafoorur Raheem | Believers, be mindful of Allah and believe in His Messenger — He will grant you a double share of mercy, a light to walk by, and forgiveness; He is forgiving and merciful. |
| 29 | لِّئَلَّا يَعْلَمَ أَهْلُ ٱلْكِتَابِ أَلَّا يَقْدِرُونَ عَلَىٰ شَيْءٍ مِّن فَضْلِ ٱللَّهِ وَأَنَّ ٱلْفَضْلَ بِيَدِ ٱللَّهِ يُؤْتِيهِ مَن يَشَاءُۚ وَٱللَّهُ ذُو ٱلْفَضْلِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ | Li’alla ya’lama Ahlul kitaabi allaa yaqdiroona ‘alaa shai’in min fadlil laahi wa annal fadla bi Yadil laahi yu’teehi many yashaaa’; wallaahu Zul fadilil ‘azeem | This is so the People of Scripture know they hold no share of Allah’s grace — grace rests entirely in His hand, given to whoever He wills. |
