Dua For Travelling by Plane – Learn Islam

A dua for travelling by plane is the short prayer a Muslim recites as the seatbelt clicks and the engines start to hum. Most passengers scroll their phones or stare out the window. The Prophet ﷺ taught us what to say when boarding any ride, and it fits aircraft just as well. Let’s learn it.

Why This Dua Matters

Air travel is a modern wonder. Wikipedia’s page on the airplane traces its history, and Britannica’s article on the airplane explains how it stays in the sky. Still, turbulence reminds even the calmest traveler how small we are.

Here is the dua for travelling by plane in Arabic:
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to say the dua aloud?

No. Say it softly so you don’t disturb other passengers. Allah hears every whisper, and the sincerity matters more than the volume.

Can I recite it at takeoff instead of boarding?

Yes. Most travelers recite it once seated, before or during takeoff. The key is to say it when the journey begins.

Is it okay to recite from my phone?

Yes. Reading from a note or app is fine, especially if you are still memorizing.

What should I say when I land?

Say “Ayibuna ta’ibuna ‘abiduna li-Rabbina hamidun,” then thank Allah for a safe arrival and make dua for your return.

Conclusion

Every flight begins with a choice: scroll or remember. Choose remembrance. Keep a dua for travelling by plane ready, share it with your family, and say it with confidence. A few quiet words at takeoff can steady your heart, and every journey will feel lighter with Allah as your Companion.
