الَّذِينَ كَانَتْ أَعْيُنُهُمْ فِي غِطَاءٍ عَن ذِكْرِي وَكَانُوا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ سَمْعًا ١٠١ أَفَحَسِبَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَن يَتَّخِذُوا عِبَادِي مِن دُونِي أَوْلِيَاءَ ۚ إِنَّا أَعْتَدْنَا جَهَنَّمَ لِلْكَافِرِينَ نُزُلًا ١٠٢ قُلْ هَلْ نُنَبِّئُكُم بِالْأَخْسَرِينَ أَعْمَالًا ١٠٣ الَّذِينَ ضَلَّ سَعْيُهُمْ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَهُمْ يَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّهُمْ يُحْسِنُونَ صُنْعًا ١٠٤ أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ وَلِقَائِهِ فَحَبِطَتْ أَعْمَالُهُمْ فَلَا نُقِيمُ لَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَزْنًا ١٠٥ ذَٰلِكَ جَزَاؤُهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ بِمَا كَفَرُوا وَاتَّخَذُوا آيَاتِي وَرُسُلِي هُزُوًا ١٠٦ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ كَانَتْ لَهُمْ جَنَّاتُ الْفِرْدَوْسِ نُزُلًا ١٠٧ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا لَا يَبْغُونَ عَنْهَا حِوَلًا ١٠٨ قُل لَّوْ كَانَ الْبَحْرُ مِدَادًا لِّكَلِمَاتِ رَبِّي لَنَفِدَ الْبَحْرُ قَبْلَ أَن تَنفَدَ كَلِمَاتُ رَبِّي وَلَوْ جِئْنَا بِمِثْلِهِ مَدَدًا ١٠٩ قُلْ إِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ يُوحَىٰ إِلَيَّ أَنَّمَا إِلَٰهُكُمْ إِلَٰهٌ وَاحِدٌ ۖ فَمَن كَانَ يَرْجُو لِقَاءَ رَبِّهِ فَلْيَعْمَلْ عَمَلًا صَالِحًا وَلَا يُشْرِكْ بِعِبَادَةِ رَبِّهِ أَحَدًا ١١٠

Transliteration

Alladhina kanat a’yunuhum fi ghita’in ‘an dhikri wa kanu la yastati’una sam’a (101). Afahasiba alladhina kafaru an yattakhidhu ‘ibadi min duni awliya’a, inna a’tadna jahannama lilkafirina nuzula (102). Qul hal nunabbi’ukum bil-akhsarina a’mala (103). Alladhina dalla sa’yuhum fil-hayati d-dunya wahum yahsabuna annahum yuhsinuna sun’a (104). Ula’ika alladhina kafaru bi’ayati rabbihim wa liqa’ihi fahabitat a’maluhum fala nuqimu lahum yawma l-qiyamati wazna (105). Dhalika jaza’uhum jahannamu bima kafaru wattakhadhu ayati wa rusuli huzuwa (106). Inna alladhina amanu wa ‘amilu s-salihati kanat lahum jannatu l-firdawsi nuzula (107). Khalidina fiha la yabghuna ‘anha hiwala (108). Qul law kana l-bahru midadan likalimati rabbi lanafida l-bahru qabla an tanfada kalimatu rabbi walaw ji’na bimithlihi madada (109). Qul innama ana basharun mithlukum yuha ilayya annama ilahukum ilahun wahid, faman kana yarju liqa’a rabbihi falya’mal ‘amalan salihan wala yushrik bi’ibadati rabbihi ahada (110).

English Translation

Verses 101–102 describe people whose eyes were veiled from remembering Allah, and who wrongly took others as protectors besides Him. Verses 103–106 explain the greatest losers are those who work hard in this life while believing they’re doing good, only to find their efforts worthless. Verses 107–108 promise Paradise, specifically Firdaws, for those who believed and did good deeds, staying there forever. Verses 109–110 close with a famous image: even an ocean of ink couldn’t write out Allah’s words, and the surah ends by telling the Prophet ﷺ to say he’s only a man who receives revelation, and that sincere worship means avoiding any partner with Allah.
