| # | Arabic | Transliteration | English Translation |
| 1 | ٱقۡتَرَبَ لِلنَّاسِ حِسَابُهُمۡ وَهُمۡ فِي غَفۡلَةٖ مُّعۡرِضُونَ | Iqtaraba lilnnasi hisabuhum wahum fee ghaflatin muAAridoona | [The time of] their account has approached for the people, while they are in heedlessness turning away |
| 2 | مَا يَأۡتِيهِم مِّن ذِكۡرٖ مِّن رَّبِّهِم مُّحۡدَثٍ إِلَّا ٱسۡتَمَعُوهُ وَهُمۡ يَلۡعَبُونَ | Ma yateehim min thikrin min rabbihim muhdathin illa istamaAAoohu wahum yalAAaboona | No mention comes to them anew from their Lord except that they listen to it while they are at play |
| 3 | لَاهِيَةٗ قُلُوبُهُمۡۗ وَأَسَرُّواْ ٱلنَّجۡوَى ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ هَلۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرٞ مِّثۡلُكُمۡۖ أَفَتَأۡتُونَ ٱلسِّحۡرَ وَأَنتُمۡ تُبۡصِرُونَ | Lahiyatan quloobuhum waasarroo alnnajwa allatheena thalamoo hal hatha illa basharun mithlukum afatatoona alssihra waantum tubsiroona | With their hearts distracted. And those who do wrong conceal their private conversation, [saying], “Is this [Prophet] except a human being like you? So would you approach magic while you are aware [of it] |
| 4 | قَالَ رَبِّي يَعۡلَمُ ٱلۡقَوۡلَ فِي ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ | Qala rabbee yaAAlamu alqawla fee alssamai waalardi wahuwa alssameeAAu alAAaleemu | The Prophet said, “My Lord knows whatever is said throughout the heaven and earth, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing |
| 5 | بَلۡ قَالُوٓاْ أَضۡغَٰثُ أَحۡلَٰمِۭ بَلِ ٱفۡتَرَىٰهُ بَلۡ هُوَ شَاعِرٞ فَلۡيَأۡتِنَا بِـَٔايَةٖ كَمَآ أُرۡسِلَ ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ | Bal qaloo adghathu ahlamin bali iftarahu bal huwa shaAAirun falyatina biayatin kama orsila alawwaloona | But they say, “[The revelation is but] a mixture of false dreams; rather, he has invented it; rather, he is a poet. So let him bring us a sign just as the previous [messengers] were sent [with miracles] |
| 6 | مَآ ءَامَنَتۡ قَبۡلَهُم مِّن قَرۡيَةٍ أَهۡلَكۡنَٰهَآۖ أَفَهُمۡ يُؤۡمِنُونَ | Ma amanat qablahum min qaryatin ahlaknaha afahum yuminoona | Not a [single] city which We destroyed believed before them, so will they believe |
| 7 | وَمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا قَبۡلَكَ إِلَّا رِجَالٗا نُّوحِيٓ إِلَيۡهِمۡۖ فَسۡـَٔلُوٓاْ أَهۡلَ ٱلذِّكۡرِ إِن كُنتُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ | Wama arsalna qablaka illa rijalan noohee ilayhim faisaloo ahla alththikri in kuntum la taAAlamoona | And We sent not before you, [O Muhammad], except men to whom We revealed [the message], so ask the people of the message if you do not know |
| 8 | وَمَا جَعَلۡنَٰهُمۡ جَسَدٗا لَّا يَأۡكُلُونَ ٱلطَّعَامَ وَمَا كَانُواْ خَٰلِدِينَ | Wama jaAAalnahum jasadan la yakuloona alttaAAama wama kanoo khalideena | And We did not make the prophets forms not eating food, nor were they immortal [on earth] |
| 9 | ثُمَّ صَدَقۡنَٰهُمُ ٱلۡوَعۡدَ فَأَنجَيۡنَٰهُمۡ وَمَن نَّشَآءُ وَأَهۡلَكۡنَا ٱلۡمُسۡرِفِينَ | Thumma sadaqnahumu alwaAAda faanjaynahum waman nashao waahlakna almusrifeena | Then We fulfilled for them the promise, and We saved them and whom We willed and destroyed the transgressors |
| 10 | لَقَدۡ أَنزَلۡنَآ إِلَيۡكُمۡ كِتَٰبٗا فِيهِ ذِكۡرُكُمۡۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ | Laqad anzalna ilaykum kitaban feehi thikrukum afala taAAqiloona | We have certainly sent down to you a Book in which is your mention. Then will you not reason |
| 11 | وَكَمۡ قَصَمۡنَا مِن قَرۡيَةٖ كَانَتۡ ظَالِمَةٗ وَأَنشَأۡنَا بَعۡدَهَا قَوۡمًا ءَاخَرِينَ | Wakam qasamna min qaryatin kanat thalimatan waanshana baAAdaha qawman akhareena | And how many a city which was unjust have We shattered and produced after it another people |
| 12 | فَلَمَّآ أَحَسُّواْ بَأۡسَنَآ إِذَا هُم مِّنۡهَا يَرۡكُضُونَ | Falamma ahassoo basana itha hum minha yarkudoona | And when its inhabitants perceived Our punishment, at once they fled from it |
| 13 | لَا تَرۡكُضُواْ وَٱرۡجِعُوٓاْ إِلَىٰ مَآ أُتۡرِفۡتُمۡ فِيهِ وَمَسَٰكِنِكُمۡ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُسۡـَٔلُونَ | La tarkudoo wairjiAAoo ila ma otriftum feehi wamasakinikum laAAallakum tusaloona | [Some angels said], “Do not flee but return to where you were given luxury and to your homes – perhaps you will be questioned |
| 14 | قَالُواْ يَٰوَيۡلَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَ | Qaloo ya waylana inna kunna thalimeena | They said, “O woe to us! Indeed, we were wrongdoers |
| 15 | فَمَا زَالَت تِّلۡكَ دَعۡوَىٰهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ جَعَلۡنَٰهُمۡ حَصِيدًا خَٰمِدِينَ | Fama zalat tilka daAAwahum hatta jaAAalnahum haseedan khamideena | And that declaration of theirs did not cease until We made them [as] a harvest [mowed down], extinguished [like a fire] |
| 16 | وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا لَٰعِبِينَ | Wama khalaqna alssamaa waalarda wama baynahuma laAAibeena | And We did not create the heaven and earth and that between them in play |
| 17 | لَوۡ أَرَدۡنَآ أَن نَّتَّخِذَ لَهۡوٗا لَّٱتَّخَذۡنَٰهُ مِن لَّدُنَّآ إِن كُنَّا فَٰعِلِينَ | Law aradna an nattakhitha lahwan laittakhathnahu min ladunna in kunna faAAileena | Had We intended to take a diversion, We could have taken it from [what is] with Us – if [indeed] We were to do so |
| 18 | بَلۡ نَقۡذِفُ بِٱلۡحَقِّ عَلَى ٱلۡبَٰطِلِ فَيَدۡمَغُهُۥ فَإِذَا هُوَ زَاهِقٞۚ وَلَكُمُ ٱلۡوَيۡلُ مِمَّا تَصِفُونَ | Bal naqthifu bialhaqqi AAala albatili fayadmaghuhu faitha huwa zahiqun walakumu alwaylu mimma tasifoona | Rather, We dash the truth upon falsehood, and it destroys it, and thereupon it departs. And for you is destruction from that which you describe |
| 19 | وَلَهُۥ مَن فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَمَنۡ عِندَهُۥ لَا يَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ عَنۡ عِبَادَتِهِۦ وَلَا يَسۡتَحۡسِرُونَ | Walahu man fee alssamawati waalardi waman AAindahu la yastakbiroona AAan AAibadatihi wala yastahsiroona | To Him belongs whoever is in the heavens and the earth. And those near Him are not prevented by arrogance from His worship, nor do they tire |
| 20 | يُسَبِّحُونَ ٱلَّيۡلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ لَا يَفۡتُرُونَ | Yusabbihoona allayla waalnnahara la yafturoona | They exalt [Him] night and day [and] do not slacken |
| 21 | أَمِ ٱتَّخَذُوٓاْ ءَالِهَةٗ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ هُمۡ يُنشِرُونَ | Ami ittakhathoo alihatan mina alardi hum yunshiroona | Or have men taken for themselves gods from the earth who resurrect [the dead] |
| 22 | لَوۡ كَانَ فِيهِمَآ ءَالِهَةٌ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ لَفَسَدَتَاۚ فَسُبۡحَٰنَ ٱللَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَرۡشِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ | Law kana feehima alihatun illa Allahu lafasadata fasubhana Allahi rabbi alAAarshi AAamma yasifoona | Had there been within the heavens and earth gods besides Allah, they both would have been ruined. So exalted is Allah, Lord of the Throne, above what they describe |
| 23 | لَا يُسۡـَٔلُ عَمَّا يَفۡعَلُ وَهُمۡ يُسۡـَٔلُونَ | La yusalu AAamma yafAAalu wahum yusaloona | He is not questioned about what He does, but they will be questioned |
| 24 | أَمِ ٱتَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ ءَالِهَةٗۖ قُلۡ هَاتُواْ بُرۡهَٰنَكُمۡۖ هَٰذَا ذِكۡرُ مَن مَّعِيَ وَذِكۡرُ مَن قَبۡلِيۚ بَلۡ أَكۡثَرُهُمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ ٱلۡحَقَّۖ فَهُم مُّعۡرِضُونَ | Ami ittakhathoo min doonihi alihatan qul hatoo burhanakum hatha thikru man maAAiya wathikru man qablee bal aktharuhum la yaAAlamoona alhaqqa fahum muAAridoona | Or have they taken gods besides Him? Say, [O Muhammad], “Produce your proof. This [Qur’an] is the message for those with me and the message of those before me.” But most of them do not know the truth, so they are turning away |
| 25 | وَمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مِن قَبۡلِكَ مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا نُوحِيٓ إِلَيۡهِ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنَا۠ فَٱعۡبُدُونِ | Wama arsalna min qablika min rasoolin illa noohee ilayhi annahu la ilaha illa ana faoAAbudooni | And We sent not before you any messenger except that We revealed to him that, “There is no deity except Me, so worship Me |
| 26 | وَقَالُواْ ٱتَّخَذَ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ وَلَدٗاۗ سُبۡحَٰنَهُۥۚ بَلۡ عِبَادٞ مُّكۡرَمُونَ | Waqaloo ittakhatha alrrahmanu waladan subhanahu bal AAibadun mukramoona | And they say, “The Most Merciful has taken a son.” Exalted is He! Rather, they are [but] honored servants |
| 27 | لَا يَسۡبِقُونَهُۥ بِٱلۡقَوۡلِ وَهُم بِأَمۡرِهِۦ يَعۡمَلُونَ | La yasbiqoonahu bialqawli wahum biamrihi yaAAmaloona | They cannot precede Him in word, and they act by His command |
| 28 | يَعۡلَمُ مَا بَيۡنَ أَيۡدِيهِمۡ وَمَا خَلۡفَهُمۡ وَلَا يَشۡفَعُونَ إِلَّا لِمَنِ ٱرۡتَضَىٰ وَهُم مِّنۡ خَشۡيَتِهِۦ مُشۡفِقُونَ | YaAAlamu ma bayna aydeehim wama khalfahum wala yashfaAAoona illa limani irtada wahum min khashyatihi mushfiqoona | He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they cannot intercede except on behalf of one whom He approves. And they, from fear of Him, are apprehensive |
| 29 | ۞وَمَن يَقُلۡ مِنۡهُمۡ إِنِّيٓ إِلَٰهٞ مِّن دُونِهِۦ فَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِيهِ جَهَنَّمَۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِي ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ | Waman yaqul minhum innee ilahun min doonihi fathalika najzeehi jahannama kathalika najzee alththalimeena | And whoever of them should say, “Indeed, I am a god besides Him”- that one We would recompense with Hell. Thus do We recompense the wrongdoers |
| 30 | أَوَلَمۡ يَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓاْ أَنَّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ كَانَتَا رَتۡقٗا فَفَتَقۡنَٰهُمَاۖ وَجَعَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلۡمَآءِ كُلَّ شَيۡءٍ حَيٍّۚ أَفَلَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ | Awalam yara allatheena kafaroo anna alssamawati waalarda kanata ratqan fafataqnahuma wajaAAalna mina almai kulla shayin hayyin afala yuminoona | Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe |
| 31 | وَجَعَلۡنَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ رَوَٰسِيَ أَن تَمِيدَ بِهِمۡ وَجَعَلۡنَا فِيهَا فِجَاجٗا سُبُلٗا لَّعَلَّهُمۡ يَهۡتَدُونَ | WajaAAalna fee alardi rawasiya an tameeda bihim wajaAAalna feeha fijajan subulan laAAallahum yahtadoona | And We placed within the earth firmly set mountains, lest it should shift with them, and We made therein [mountain] passes [as] roads that they might be guided |
| 32 | وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ سَقۡفٗا مَّحۡفُوظٗاۖ وَهُمۡ عَنۡ ءَايَٰتِهَا مُعۡرِضُونَ | WajaAAalna alssamaa saqfan mahfoothan wahum AAan ayatiha muAAridoona | And We made the sky a protected ceiling, but they, from its signs, are turning away |
| 33 | وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ ٱلَّيۡلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ وَٱلشَّمۡسَ وَٱلۡقَمَرَۖ كُلّٞ فِي فَلَكٖ يَسۡبَحُونَ | Wahuwa allathee khalaqa allayla waalnnahara waalshshamsa waalqamara kullun fee falakin yasbahoona | And it is He who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon; all [heavenly bodies] in an orbit are swimming |
| 34 | وَمَا جَعَلۡنَا لِبَشَرٖ مِّن قَبۡلِكَ ٱلۡخُلۡدَۖ أَفَإِيْن مِّتَّ فَهُمُ ٱلۡخَٰلِدُونَ | Wama jaAAalna libasharin min qablika alkhulda afain mitta fahumu alkhalidoona | And We did not grant to any man before you eternity [on earth]; so if you die – would they be eternal |
| 35 | كُلُّ نَفۡسٖ ذَآئِقَةُ ٱلۡمَوۡتِۗ وَنَبۡلُوكُم بِٱلشَّرِّ وَٱلۡخَيۡرِ فِتۡنَةٗۖ وَإِلَيۡنَا تُرۡجَعُونَ | Kullu nafsin thaiqatu almawti wanablookum bialshsharri waalkhayri fitnatan wailayna turjaAAoona | Every soul will taste death. And We test you with evil and with good as trial; and to Us you will be returned |
| 36 | وَإِذَا رَءَاكَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓاْ إِن يَتَّخِذُونَكَ إِلَّا هُزُوًا أَهَٰذَا ٱلَّذِي يَذۡكُرُ ءَالِهَتَكُمۡ وَهُم بِذِكۡرِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ هُمۡ كَٰفِرُونَ | Waitha raaka allatheena kafaroo in yattakhithoonaka illa huzuwan ahatha allathee yathkuru alihatakum wahum bithikri alrrahmani hum kafiroona | And when those who disbelieve see you, [O Muhammad], they take you not except in ridicule, [saying], “Is this the one who insults your gods?” And they are, at the mention of the Most Merciful, disbelievers |
| 37 | خُلِقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مِنۡ عَجَلٖۚ سَأُوْرِيكُمۡ ءَايَٰتِي فَلَا تَسۡتَعۡجِلُونِ | Khuliqa alinsanu min AAajalin saoreekum ayatee fala tastaAAjiloona | Man was created of haste. I will show you My signs, so do not impatiently urge Me |
| 38 | وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَٰذَا ٱلۡوَعۡدُ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَٰدِقِينَ | Wayaqooloona mata hatha alwaAAdu in kuntum sadiqeena | And they say, “When is this promise, if you should be truthful |
| 39 | لَوۡ يَعۡلَمُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ حِينَ لَا يَكُفُّونَ عَن وُجُوهِهِمُ ٱلنَّارَ وَلَا عَن ظُهُورِهِمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ يُنصَرُونَ | Law yaAAlamu allatheena kafaroo heena la yakuffoona AAan wujoohihimu alnnara wala AAan thuhoorihim wala hum yunsaroona | If those who disbelieved but knew the time when they will not avert the Fire from their faces or from their backs and they will not be aided |
| 40 | بَلۡ تَأۡتِيهِم بَغۡتَةٗ فَتَبۡهَتُهُمۡ فَلَا يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ رَدَّهَا وَلَا هُمۡ يُنظَرُونَ | Bal tateehim baghtatan fatabhatuhum fala yastateeAAoona raddaha wala hum yuntharoona | Rather, it will come to them unexpectedly and bewilder them, and they will not be able to repel it, nor will they be reprieved |
| 41 | وَلَقَدِ ٱسۡتُهۡزِئَ بِرُسُلٖ مِّن قَبۡلِكَ فَحَاقَ بِٱلَّذِينَ سَخِرُواْ مِنۡهُم مَّا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ | Walaqadi istuhzia birusulin min qablika fahaqa biallatheena sakhiroo minhum ma kanoo bihi yastahzioona | And already were messengers ridiculed before you, but those who mocked them were enveloped by what they used to ridicule |
| 42 | قُلۡ مَن يَكۡلَؤُكُم بِٱلَّيۡلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ مِنَ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِۚ بَلۡ هُمۡ عَن ذِكۡرِ رَبِّهِم مُّعۡرِضُونَ | Qul man yaklaokum biallayli waalnnahari mina alrrahmani bal hum AAan thikri rabbihim muAAridoona | Say, “Who can protect you at night or by day from the Most Merciful?” But they are, from the remembrance of their Lord, turning away |
| 43 | أَمۡ لَهُمۡ ءَالِهَةٞ تَمۡنَعُهُم مِّن دُونِنَاۚ لَا يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ نَصۡرَ أَنفُسِهِمۡ وَلَا هُم مِّنَّا يُصۡحَبُونَ | Am lahum alihatun tamnaAAuhum min doonina la yastateeAAoona nasra anfusihim wala hum minna yushaboona | Or do they have gods to defend them other than Us? They are unable [even] to help themselves, nor can they be protected from Us |
| 44 | بَلۡ مَتَّعۡنَا هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَءَابَآءَهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ طَالَ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلۡعُمُرُۗ أَفَلَا يَرَوۡنَ أَنَّا نَأۡتِي ٱلۡأَرۡضَ نَنقُصُهَا مِنۡ أَطۡرَافِهَآۚ أَفَهُمُ ٱلۡغَٰلِبُونَ | Bal mattaAAna haolai waabaahum hatta tala AAalayhimu alAAumuru afala yarawna anna natee alarda nanqusuha min atrafiha afahumu alghaliboona | But, [on the contrary], We have provided good things for these [disbelievers] and their fathers until life was prolonged for them. Then do they not see that We set upon the land, reducing it from its borders? So it is they who will overcome |
| 45 | قُلۡ إِنَّمَآ أُنذِرُكُم بِٱلۡوَحۡيِۚ وَلَا يَسۡمَعُ ٱلصُّمُّ ٱلدُّعَآءَ إِذَا مَا يُنذَرُونَ | Qul innama onthirukum bialwahyi wala yasmaAAu alssummu aldduAAaa itha ma yuntharoona | Say, “I only warn you by revelation.” But the deaf do not hear the call when they are warned |
| 46 | وَلَئِن مَّسَّتۡهُمۡ نَفۡحَةٞ مِّنۡ عَذَابِ رَبِّكَ لَيَقُولُنَّ يَٰوَيۡلَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَ | Walain massathum nafhatun min AAathabi rabbika layaqoolunna ya waylana inna kunna thalimeena | And if [as much as] a whiff of the punishment of your Lord should touch them, they would surely say, “O woe to us! Indeed, we have been wrongdoers |
| 47 | وَنَضَعُ ٱلۡمَوَٰزِينَ ٱلۡقِسۡطَ لِيَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ فَلَا تُظۡلَمُ نَفۡسٞ شَيۡـٔٗاۖ وَإِن كَانَ مِثۡقَالَ حَبَّةٖ مِّنۡ خَرۡدَلٍ أَتَيۡنَا بِهَاۗ وَكَفَىٰ بِنَا حَٰسِبِينَ | WanadaAAu almawazeena alqista liyawmi alqiyamati fala tuthlamu nafsun shayan wain kana mithqala habbatin min khardalin atayna biha wakafa bina hasibeena | And We place the scales of justice for the Day of Resurrection, so no soul will be treated unjustly at all. And if there is [even] the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it forth. And sufficient are We as accountant |
| 48 | وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَيۡنَا مُوسَىٰ وَهَٰرُونَ ٱلۡفُرۡقَانَ وَضِيَآءٗ وَذِكۡرٗا لِّلۡمُتَّقِينَ | Walaqad atayna moosa waharoona alfurqana wadiyaan wathikran lilmuttaqeena | And We had already given Moses and Aaron the criterion and a light and a reminder for the righteous |

| 51 | ۞وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَيۡنَآ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ رُشۡدَهُۥ مِن قَبۡلُ وَكُنَّا بِهِۦ عَٰلِمِينَ | Walaqad atayna ibraheema rushdahu min qablu wakunna bihi AAalimeena | And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before, and We were of him well-Knowing |
| 52 | إِذۡ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوۡمِهِۦ مَا هَٰذِهِ ٱلتَّمَاثِيلُ ٱلَّتِيٓ أَنتُمۡ لَهَا عَٰكِفُونَ | Ith qala liabeehi waqawmihi ma hathihi alttamatheelu allatee antum laha AAakifoona | When he said to his father and his people, “What are these statues to which you are devoted |

| 56 | قَالَ بَل رَّبُّكُمۡ رَبُّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ ٱلَّذِي فَطَرَهُنَّ وَأَنَا۠ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَ | Qala bal rabbukum rabbu alssamawati waalardi allathee fatarahunna waana AAala thalikum mina alshshahideena | He said, “[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify |
| 57 | وَتَٱللَّهِ لَأَكِيدَنَّ أَصۡنَٰمَكُم بَعۡدَ أَن تُوَلُّواْ مُدۡبِرِينَ | WataAllahi laakeedanna asnamakum baAAda an tuwalloo mudbireena | And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away |

What Is Surah Al-Anbiya?
The name Al-Anbiya means “The Prophets” in Arabic. This Meccan surah contains 112 verses and focuses heavily on prophetic narratives. Rather than giving one long story, the chapter weaves together multiple prophets—Ibrahim, Lut, Nuh, Musa, and others—to highlight universal lessons about faith and obedience.
The surah reveals how different prophets faced different trials but maintained unwavering trust in Allah. Each story is concise yet powerful, teaching us practical wisdom about living our faith.

Why Surah Al-Anbiya Matters Today
This surah answers a common problem many Muslims face: doubt during difficulty. When trials come—loss, illness, family struggles—we question whether Allah really cares. Surah Al-Anbiya directly addresses this by showing that every prophet went through hardship. Yet they never gave up, and neither should we.
The surah also combats another issue: feeling alone in faith. Reading these stories reminds us we’re part of a long tradition of believers stretching back thousands of years. Prophet Ibrahim worried about his son. Prophet Nuh preached for 950 years with almost no converts. Prophet Musa faced a resistant pharaoh. Their struggles make our challenges feel manageable.
Additionally, this chapter strengthens our Quran knowledge by showing how interconnected Islamic teachings are. Many surahs reference these prophets, and understanding their stories here helps you grasp the entire Quran’s message.

Even Prophet Jonah felt hopeless trapped in the whale’s belly. Yet he remembered Allah and made du’a (supplication). This teaches us that despair ends when we turn to Allah, no matter how dark things seem.

Hadith References:
Hadith 1: The Power of Patience in Prophetic Life
Sunan Abu Dawood, Hadith 4701: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that patience during trials is a sign of strong faith and brings Allah’s reward. Just as the prophets in Surah Al-Anbiya endured persecution, believers today purify their souls through patient suffering.
This hadith connects directly to the chapter’s message: hardship isn’t punishment—it’s purification.
Hadith 2: Learning from Prophetic Examples
Jami’ at-Tirmidhi, Hadith 3860: The Prophet said that studying the lives of previous prophets teaches us how to face challenges with wisdom and trust. The companions often asked about prophetic stories because these narratives strengthen faith more than theory alone.
This hadith validates why Surah Al-Anbiya is so powerful: prophetic stories are spiritual medicine.

Common Questions About Surah Al-Anbiya

The surah explicitly mentions around 15-16 prophets including Ibrahim, Musa, Nuh, Jonah, and others. Each story highlights different aspects of faith and obedience to Allah.
Why does Surah Al-Anbiya focus on stories instead of legal rulings?
Stories emotionally connect us to teachings in ways rules cannot. These narratives show faith in action, making spiritual lessons memorable and applicable to modern challenges.
What’s the difference between Surah Al-Anbiya and other chapters about prophets?

How should I teach Surah Al-Anbiya to children?
