Making Dua When It is Raining – Learn Islam

Dua when it is raining is a Sunnah many of us skip without noticing. The first drops hit the window, we grab the laundry or take a photo, and the moment passes. Yet the Prophet ﷺ paused at exactly this moment and spoke to Allah. His words are short, and you can learn them in under a minute.

Dua When It Is Raining

Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that when it rained, the Prophet ﷺ would ask Allah to make it beneficial. This is the heart of the Sunnah. It is a plain request: let this rain bring good, not harm.

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ صَيِّبًا نَافِعًا

Allahummaj’alhu sayyiban nafi’an

English Translation

“O Allah, make it a beneficial rain.”

Urdu Translation

اے اللہ! اسے نفع بخش بارش بنا دے۔

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the dua when it is raining?

Say “Allahummaj’alhu sayyiban nafi’an,” meaning O Allah, make it beneficial rain. The Prophet ﷺ said this when he saw rain, and it is easy to memorise.

Can I make my own dua in the rain?

Yes. Ask for anything good in your own words after saying the Prophet’s dua. Many people pray for family, health, and forgiveness.

What if the rain turns into a flood?

Ask Allah to send it around you, not on you: “Allahumma hawalayna wa la ‘alayna.” This dua is reported in Bukhari and Muslim.

Conclusion

Rain falls on the just and the careless alike, but only the grateful stop to say thank you. The Prophet ﷺ gave us the words, and Allah gave us the sky. Say them at the next shower, teach them to someone small, and let every storm become a reminder of His mercy.
