What Does the Holy Quran Say about Travelling?

In the Quran, the word “sayyir” is used to mean the one who travels. The word “sayir” literally translates to “move” or “travel.” Allah (SWT) made the word appear 27 times in the Quran with various phrases such as “Do Travel,” “Do they not Travel,” and “Tell them to Travel.”

1. Dua for Starting the Journey

Arabic: سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ

Transliteration: Subhanal-ladhi sakh-khara lana hatha wama kunna lahu muqrinin wa inna ila rabbina lamunqalibun.

2. Dua for Protection During Travel

Arabic: اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ فِي سَفَرِنَا هَذَا الْبِرَّ وَالتَّقْوَىٰ، وَمِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا تَرْضَىٰ.

Transliteration: Allahumma inna nas’aluka fi safarina hatha al-birra wat-taqwa wa mina al-‘amali ma tardha.

3. Dua for Safe Return

Arabic: اللَّهُمَّ ارْجِعْنَا إِلَىٰ أَهْلِنَا سَالِمِينَ غَانِمِينَ.

Transliteration: Allahumma arji’na ila ahli-na salimeena ghanimeen.

4. Dua for Facing Challenges

Arabic: حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ.

Transliteration: Hasbunallahu wa ni’ma al-wakeel.

5. Dua for Gratitude After Safe Arrival

Arabic: الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَلَىٰ سَلَامَتِنَا وَنِعَمِهِ.

Transliteration: Alhamdu lillahi ‘ala salamatina wa ni’amihi.
