Prayer For Forgiveness of Others – Islamic Guide

We will learn here in this blog, Prayer For Forgiveness of Others – In Islam, a compelling prayer of forgiveness of others is a general dua that calls on Allah to forgive as a favor to others and believers. There are particular prayers of forgiveness of the other that involve utterance of words such as “Our Lord, forgive me and my brothers that came before me in the faith” and “Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the people who believed in me the Day the reckoning is made up” (Quran 59:10) and “Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the people who believed in me the Day the reckoning is made up (Quran 14:41). You may also request Allah to pardon all the living and the dead, saying, “O Allah! Pardon our life and our dead ones.”

In case there is an individual who committed a serious sin (such as suicide) due to a mental illness. In a nutshell, he/she is already dead. So I can’t ask for forgiveness. However, you do not want to see that person in Hellfire. And can Allah pardon Him/Her in my behalf who pray that He/She forgive me and Will Allah pardon that He/She forgive me and make that person enter in Heaven?

As far as the dead passed away as Muslims, it is acceptable and advisable to pray on their behalf. This has been taught in the Quran and Sunnah.

والذين جاءوا من بعدهم يقولون ربنا اغفر لنا ولإخواننا الذين سبقونا بالإيمان

And the ones that followed them, and said, Our Lord, forgive us, and our brethren who were before us, in in faith.” Quran 59:10

ربنا اغفر لي ولوالدي وللمؤمنين يوم يقوم الحساب

And our Lord, have mercy on me and my parents and the faith, the Day the reckoning is made.— Quran 14:41

‏اللهم اغفر لحينا وميتنا

O Allah! Forgive our living and our deceased.
