Surah Luqman is one of those chapters in the Quran that quietly changes how you see parenting, patience, and faith. Many Muslims read it once and move on, without realizing it holds a complete guide for raising children with strong values. We send down rain from the sky, and produce on the earth every kind of noble creature, in pairs. |
| 11 | هَٰذَا خَلْقُ اللَّهِ فَأَرُونِي مَاذَا خَلَقَ الَّذِينَ مِن دُونِهِ ۚ بَلِ الظَّالِمُونَ فِي ضَلَالٍ مُّبِينٍ | Hādhā khalqu llāhi fa-arūnī mādhā khalaqa lladhīna min dūnihi bali ẓ-ẓālimūna fī ḍalālin mubīn | Such is the Creation of Allah: now show Me what is there that others besides Him have created: nay, but the wrongdoers are in manifest error. |

| 17 | يَا بُنَيَّ أَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ وَأْمُرْ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَانْهَ عَنِ الْمُنكَرِ وَاصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا أَصَابَكَ ۖ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ مِنْ عَزْمِ الْأُمُورِ | Yā bunayya aqimi ṣ-ṣalāta wa’mur bil-maʿrūfi wanha ʿani l-munkari wa ṣbir ʿalā mā aṣābaka inna dhālika min ʿazmi l-umūr | “O my son! Establish regular prayer, enjoin what is just, and forbid what is wrong: and bear with patient constancy whatever betide thee; for this is firmness (of purpose) in (the conduct of) affairs.” |
| 18 | وَلَا تُصَعِّرْ خَدَّكَ لِلنَّاسِ وَلَا تَمْشِ فِي الْأَرْضِ مَرَحًا ۖ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ كُلَّ مُخْتَالٍ فَخُورٍ | Wa lā tuṣaʿʿir khaddaka lin-nāsi wa lā tamshi fī l-arḍi maraḥan inna llāha lā yuḥibbu kulla mukhtālin fakhūr | “And swell not thy cheek (for pride) at men, nor walk in insolence through the earth; for Allah loveth not any arrogant boaster.” |
| 19 | وَاقْصِدْ فِي مَشْيِكَ وَاغْضُضْ مِن صَوْتِكَ ۚ إِنَّ أَنكَرَ الْأَصْوَاتِ لَصَوْتُ الْحَمِيرِ | Wa qṣid fī mashyika wa ghḍuḍ min ṣawtika inna ankara l-aṣwāti la-ṣawtu l-ḥamīr | “And be moderate in thy pace, and lower thy voice; for the harshest of sounds without doubt is the braying of the ass.” |
| 20 | أَلَمْ تَرَوْا أَنَّ اللَّهَ سَخَّرَ لَكُم مَّا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَأَسْبَغَ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعَمَهُ ظَاهِرَةً وَبَاطِنَةً ۗ وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَن يُجَادِلُ فِي اللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَلَا هُدًى وَلَا كِتَابٍ مُّنِيرٍ | A-lam taraw anna llāha sakhkhara lakum mā fī s-samāwāti wa mā fī l-arḍi wa asbagha ʿalaykum niʿamahu ẓāhiratan wa bāṭinatan wa minan-nāsi man yujādilu fī llāhi bighayri ʿilmin wa lā hudan wa lā kitābin munīr | Do ye not see that Allah has subjected to your (use) all things in the heavens and on earth, and has made His bounties flow to you in exceeding measure, (both) seen and unseen? Yet there are among men those who dispute about Allah, without knowledge and without guidance, and without a Book to enlighten them. |
| 21 | وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ اتَّبِعُوا مَا أَنزَلَ اللَّهُ قَالُوا بَلْ نَتَّبِعُ مَا وَجَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ آبَاءَنَا ۚ أَوَلَوْ كَانَ الشَّيْطَانُ يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ عَذَابِ السَّعِيرِ | Wa idhā qīla lahumu ttabiʿū mā anzala llāhu qālū bal nattabiʿu mā wajadnā ʿalayhi ābā’anā a-wa-law kāna sh-shayṭānu yadʿūhum ilā ʿadhābi s-saʿīr | When they are told to follow the (Revelation) that Allah has sent down, they say: “Nay, we shall follow the ways that we found our fathers (following).” What! Even if it is Satan beckoning them to the Penalty of the (Blazing) Fire? |
| 22 | ۞ وَمَن يُسْلِمْ وَجْهَهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَهُوَ مُحْسِنٌ فَقَدِ اسْتَمْسَكَ بِالْعُرْوَةِ الْوُثْقَىٰ ۗ وَإِلَى اللَّهِ عَاقِبَةُ الْأُمُورِ | Wa man yuslim wajhahu ila llāhi wa huwa muḥsinun faqadi stamsaka bil-ʿurwati l-wuthqā wa ila llāhi ʿāqibatu l-umūr | Whoever submits his whole self to Allah, and is a doer of good, has grasped indeed the most trustworthy hand-hold: and with Allah rests the End and Decision of (all) affairs. |
| 23 | وَمَن كَفَرَ فَلَا يَحْزُنكَ كُفْرُهُ ۚ إِلَيْنَا مَرْجِعُهُمْ فَنُنَبِّئُهُم بِمَا عَمِلُوا ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ | Wa man kafara fa-lā yaḥzunka kufruhu ilaynā marjiʿuhum fa-nunabbi’uhum bimā ʿamilū inna llāha ʿalīmun bi-dhāti ṣ-ṣudūr | But if any reject Faith, let not his rejection grieve thee: to Us is their return, and We shall tell them the truth of their deeds: for Allah knows well all that is in (men’s) hearts. |
| 24 | نُمَتِّعُهُمْ قَلِيلًا ثُمَّ نَضْطَرُّهُمْ إِلَىٰ عَذَابٍ غَلِيظٍ | Numattiʿuhum qalīlan thumma naḍṭarruhum ilā ʿadhābin ghalīẓ | We grant them their pleasure for a little while: in the end shall We drive them to a chastisement unrelenting. |
| 25 | وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُم مَّنْ خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ لَيَقُولُنَّ اللَّهُ ۚ قُلِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ۚ بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ | Wa la’in sa’altahum man khalaqa s-samāwāti wal-arḍa la-yaqūlunna llāhu quli l-ḥamdu lillāhi bal aktharuhum lā yaʿlamūn | If thou ask them, who it is that created the heavens and the earth, they will certainly say, “Allah.” Say: “Praise be to Allah!” But most of them understand not. |
| 26 | لِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الْغَنِيُّ الْحَمِيدُ | Lillāhi mā fī s-samāwāti wal-arḍi inna llāha huwa l-ghaniyyu l-ḥamīd | To Allah belong all things in heaven and earth: verily Allah is He (that is) free of all wants, worthy of all praise. |
| 27 | وَلَوْ أَنَّمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ مِن شَجَرَةٍ أَقْلَامٌ وَالْبَحْرُ يَمُدُّهُ مِن بَعْدِهِ سَبْعَةُ أَبْحُرٍ مَّا نَفِدَتْ كَلِمَاتُ اللَّهِ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ | Wa law annamā fī l-arḍi min shajaratin aqlāmun wal-baḥru yamudduhu min baʿdihi sabʿatu abḥurin mā nafidat kalimātu llāhi inna llāha ʿazīzun ḥakīm | And if all the trees on earth were pens and the ocean (were ink), with seven oceans behind it to add to its (supply), yet would not the words of Allah be exhausted (in the writing): for Allah is Exalted in Power, full of Wisdom. |
| 28 | مَّا خَلْقُكُمْ وَلَا بَعْثُكُمْ إِلَّا كَنَفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ بَصِيرٌ | Mā khalqukum wa lā baʿthukum illā ka-nafsin wāḥidatin inna llāha samīʿun baṣīr | And your creation or your resurrection is in no wise but as an individual soul: for Allah is He Who hears and sees (all things). |
| 29 | أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ يُولِجُ اللَّيْلَ فِي النَّهَارِ وَيُولِجُ النَّهَارَ فِي اللَّيْلِ وَسَخَّرَ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ كُلٌّ يَجْرِي إِلَىٰ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرٌ | A-lam tara anna llāha yūliju l-layla fī n-nahāri wa yūliju n-nahāra fī l-layli wa sakhkhara sh-shamsa wal-qamara kullun yajrī ilā ajalin musamman wa anna llāha bimā taʿmalūna khabīr | Seest thou not that Allah merges Night into Day, and He merges Day into Night; that He has subjected the sun, and the moon (to His Law), each running its course for a term appointed; and that Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do. |
| 30 | ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الْحَقُّ وَأَنَّ مَا يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِ الْبَاطِلُ وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْكَبِيرُ | Dhālika bi-anna llāha huwa l-ḥaqqu wa anna mā yadʿūna min dūnihi l-bāṭilu wa anna llāha huwa l-ʿaliyyu l-kabīr | That is because Allah is the (only) Reality, and because whatever else they invoke besides Him is Falsehood; and because Allah — He is the Most High, Most Great. |
| 31 | أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ الْفُلْكَ تَجْرِي فِي الْبَحْرِ بِنِعْمَتِ اللَّهِ لِيُرِيَكُم مِّنْ آيَاتِهِ ۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِّكُلِّ صَبَّارٍ شَكُورٍ | A-lam tara anna l-fulka tajrī fī l-baḥri bi-niʿmati llāhi li-yuriyakum min āyātihi inna fī dhālika la-āyātin li-kulli ṣabbārin shakūr | Seest thou not that the ships sail through the ocean by the Grace of Allah? — that He may show you of His Signs? Verily in this are Signs for all who constantly persevere and give thanks. |
| 32 | وَإِذَا غَشِيَهُم مَّوْجٌ كَالظُّلَلِ دَعَوُا اللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ فَلَمَّا نَجَّاهُمْ إِلَى الْبَرِّ فَمِنْهُم مُّقْتَصِدٌ ۚ وَمَا يَجْحَدُ بِآيَاتِنَا إِلَّا كُلُّ خَتَّارٍ كَفُورٍ | Wa idhā ghashiyahum mawjun kaẓ-ẓulali daʿawu llāha mukhliṣīna lahu d-dīna fa-lammā najjāhum ila l-barri fa-minhum muqtaṣidun wa mā yajḥadu bi-āyātinā illā kullu khattārin kafūr | When a wave covers them like the canopy (of clouds), they call to Allah, offering Him sincere devotion. But when He has delivered them safely to land, there are among them those that halt between (right and wrong). But none reject Our Signs except only a perfidious, ungrateful (wretch). |
| 33 | يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اتَّقُوا رَبَّكُمْ وَاخْشَوْا يَوْمًا لَّا يَجْزِي وَالِدٌ عَن وَلَدِهِ وَلَا مَوْلُودٌ هُوَ جَازٍ عَن وَالِدِهِ شَيْئًا ۚ إِنَّ وَعْدَ اللَّهِ حَقٌّ ۖ فَلَا تَغُرَّنَّكُمُ الْحَيَاةُ الدُّنْيَا وَلَا يَغُرَّنَّكُم بِاللَّهِ الْغَرُورُ | Yā ayyuhā n-nāsu ttaqū rabbakum wa khshaw yawman lā yajzī wālidun ʿan waladihi wa lā mawlūdun huwa jāzin ʿan wālidihi shay’an inna waʿda llāhi ḥaqqun fa-lā taghurrannakumu l-ḥayātu d-dunyā wa lā yaghurrannakum billāhi l-gharūr | O mankind! Do your duty to your Lord, and fear (the coming of) a Day when no father can avail aught for his son, nor a son avail aught for his father. Verily, the promise of Allah is true: let not then this present life deceive you, nor let the Chief Deceiver deceive you about Allah. |
| 34 | إِنَّ اللَّهَ عِندَهُ عِلْمُ السَّاعَةِ وَيُنَزِّلُ الْغَيْثَ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا فِي الْأَرْحَامِ ۖ وَمَا تَدْرِي نَفْسٌ مَّاذَا تَكْسِبُ غَدًا ۖ وَمَا تَدْرِي نَفْسٌ بِأَيِّ أَرْضٍ تَمُوتُ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ خَبِيرٌ | Inna llāha ʿindahu ʿilmu s-sāʿati wa yunazzilu l-ghaytha wa yaʿlamu mā fī l-arḥāmi wa mā tadrī nafsun mādhā taksibu ghadan wa mā tadrī nafsun bi-ayyi arḍin tamūtu inna llāha ʿalīmun khabīr | Verily the knowledge of the Hour is with Allah (alone). It is He Who sends down rain, and He Who knows what is in the wombs. Nor does any one know what it is that he will earn on the morrow: nor does any one know in what land he is to die. Verily with Allah is full knowledge and He is acquainted (with all things). |
The Problem: Why Parents Feel Lost
Modern parenting advice is everywhere. Books, podcasts, social media threads, all claiming to know the “right” way to raise kids. But most of it ignores something basic: character and faith matter more than achievements. Muslim parents often feel stuck between worldly success and spiritual grounding for their children.

The Insight: A Father’s Wisdom, Preserved Forever
Luqman was not a prophet, according to most scholars, but a man blessed with deep wisdom. Allah chose to preserve his advice to his son in the Quran itself. That alone tells you how valuable his words are. The chapter, surah e luqman, covers monotheism, gratitude, prayer, patience, humility, and good manners, all in one flowing lesson.
Importance and Benefits of Surah Luqman
